Botox

Botox is regularly used for smoothing wrinkles that appear due to repetitive facial expressions (frowning, smiling, crinkling). BOTOX is made from botulinum toxin A.  When injected in very tiny amounts into the skin and muscle it leads to a partial paralysis of the muscles of facial expression.  BOTOX injectables are very safe to use, especially when used in the tiny amounts needed for cosmetic purposes. Botox is temporary lasting only about 3-4 months.

Botox is a virtually painless procedure. If you can tolerate a small pin prick, you will have no problem with Botox. There is no recovery time needed after receiving Botox injectables. It takes a few days to see the full effect of the treatment, after which you will see the loss of your wrinkles for several months. Repetative use of botox can lead to prevention of wrinkles that show when the face is relaxed. A consultation with your surgeon will determine if you are a good candidate for botox.

Facial Fillers

Facial Fillers can be used to help restore youthful fullness to the face by softening wrinkles and enhancing contours. Fillers can be composed of several materials but commonly are composed of Hyaluronic acid (HA) – A natural substance found in your body. Hyaluronic acid can be found in soft connective tissue, the fluid surrounding your eyes, as well as cartilage, joints, and skin. Hyaluronic acid in fillers is not derived from animal sources.

The placement of the fillers is almost painless but you may get a local anesthetic in combination with ice and ointments to numb the area. The surgeon will then gently introduce the filler through a very fine needle into the affected area. Multiple small injections may be given. Small red injection marks may be noticed but they will fade in 24-48 hours. Expect some degree of swelling in the first few days and this should dissipate by the end of the first week.  The results will be noticeable immediately.
